I was speaking to a friend of mine yesterday about ‘Fountain Head'(Talking to her about an issue always exposes a different view…she makes me think something which I had never thought about. I really love to debate with her..this time the topic was Iyn rand’s Fountain head!!)
We talked for about an hour. All the time I was speaking about the main theme of the novel..while she was speaking about the characters and their reactions in various situations.
She was speaking about every person, analyzing their mentality and refering to instances in the novel in support of her conclusions!
The novel was same..the characters were same..but my perception was entirely different from hers. I was more concerned about their proffession and their attitude towards it, as I always do, While she was thinking about their behaviour and mentalities..
Strange that I don’t often notice most obvious things about behaviour of people around me. Very often, people surprise me with their reactions and make me search for clues from the past that could have given a hint about it.
I had never thought this was important because it didn’t affect me…
But now one of my collegues has succeeded in putting me in an embarassing situation. The way he manipulated my own statements to convey an entirely different meaning really made me speechless! I neither knew nor cared to know that he was really capable of doing so. I dont regret even. But I feel I must have been alert atleast–Alert to sense what was going on and curtail the possible damage.. I just can’t let people around me influence my being in whatever way they wish to, right??!!
yes, its strange… its absolutely strange that different people can draw different opinions and extract different things from the same piece of writing…
i can identify with your feeling… have felt the same as well… but when you experience this feeling, you want to read that book all over again in hope of discovering things you might have left behind when you were going through it the previous time…sometimes, even ten times is not enough – you can still find something new when you read it again…
whatever it is, reading is THE ultimate pastime… it fills you up so much…
You say you are an INFP.
Intuitives (N)s almost instinctively gets the bigger picture, and very quickly.
Your friend you may find is an “F”.
Feelers will have to build up the picture piece by piece.
Like doing a jigsaw,
you may see the picture after a few pieces, and then look for the pieces to construct the picture you have visualised; the final picture is more important;
while your friend will study each piece in detail and then put it in place and see the picture only at the end but the minute details are equally important to her.
You are studying to be a doctor,
you will find how different your own colleagues will be in their approach towards a diagnosis.
